Netflix has canceled Luke Cage after two seasons. A week earlier Netflix announced that Iron Fist, another Marvel series, won’t be renewed for a third season.
In a joint statement, both Marvel and Netflix thanked all the cast, writers, and crew for their efforts and all the fans for supporting the shows. However, they didn’t comment on the whys of the decision. Fans of the two shows are outraged. There are speculations going around as to why Netflix pulled the plug on the shows.
According to few rumours, Luke Cage was canceled due to creative difference and the inability to come to terms for a third season. Iron Fist, according to some critics, doesn’t have a strong enough story to sway the critics of the show which made the decision easy for Netflix. However, since Netflix doesn’t reveal the ratings, we have no way of confirming if it was the case. Another reason could be Disney launching its own streaming service by 2019 and streaming all its original content including Marvel projects and Star Wars. Meanwhile, Netflix continues to release other Marvel shows, including Jessica Jones, The Punisher and DareDevil, the third season to which was released on October 19 this year, while Jessica Jones has already been renewed for a third season and the Punisher is set to premiere next year.
There may also be a new series on the horizon starring both Iron Fist and Luke Cage’s characters as Marvel hinted cancellation of the show not being the end of Luke Cage and Iron Fist. There is also a possibility of Cameos in next seasons of Marvel shows that are currently running on Netflix. However, all the fans have at this point are speculations and hope that the remaining Marvel street heroes do not meet the same fate. Daredevil season 3 is the best of the series and has fans hoping it gets renewed for another season. However, no formal announcement has been made by Marvel or Netflix about whether the series will be coming back or not.
