Even though Marvel’s Hawkeye was inspired by DC’s Green Arrow who first appeared in comics in 1941, Marvel made sure they were going to create a different version of it. The “rip off”, as some people call it in the great debate of Green Arrow vs Hawkeye, was made different than the original. Stan Lee made sure that Hawkeye’s abilities will overshadow Green Arrow’s.
Skipping the debate of who is more powerful or who is original, let’s come back to our original topic which is Stephen Amell’s latest jab on Green Arrow vs Hawkeye where he said “I think that any iteration of Green Arrow would beat any iteration of Hawkeye just based on the fact he’s not weird and left handed” which was followed by “I’m kidding, I’m kidding, just kidding” at Motor City Comic Con.

– Stephen Amell
If we take Amell’s banter seriously for a second, we’re in for an amazing outcome as the CW Arrowverse iteration of Green Arrow is really not looking good in terms of defeating Hawkeye. We will not bore you with their origin stories because if you’re reading this, we assume you’re well aware of the characters and their abilities.
The CW Arrowverse Green Arrow took off splendidly with many of our favorite villains being utterly defeated and left for dust by him such as Deathstroke, Ra’s Al Ghul, Damien Darhk and Prometheus. Mind you, these are not ordinary villains in DC Universe and with Green Arrow finding a way to put an end to them, we could have argued that Amell’s statement had some weight to it. Recently Ricardo Diaz has been introduced as a new villain in the 6th season and Arrow’s strategy to beat him has indeed made Amell’s statement either a great joke or a great misunderstanding. Diaz has Green Arrow running around in circles and making decisions that even the audience finds downright comical. Green Arrow not only fails to take down Diaz on his own but even with the help of FBI he couldn’t capture or kill him. What makes Diaz standout is that he is an ordinary street thug and is not a supervillain that Green Arrow has fought off in previous seasons which begs us to question, can this iteration of Green Arrow actually beat Hawkeye?
Green Arrow vs Hawkeye is a great debate with many fans leaning on the Robin Hood influenced archer but there is no way the down and beaten Green Arrow of CW’s Arrowverse can beat Hawkeye who is told to be preparing to help the Avengers in fighting Thanos. A street thug vs an Alien mass murderer who can literally kill millions with a snap of his finger, you do the math. We believe that Stephen Amell was actually joking and in no certain terms he meant what he said but come on, We are sure that you can come up with better jokes than that Amell.
