Ladies and gentlemen, saddle up, gear up, fasten your seatbelt and get ready for a show of a lifetime. 11 years of effort and continuity of 21 movies converging to the most epic of grand finales. Yes, we’re talking about the Avengers Endgame. With the mixture of the biggest collection of superheroes in a single film, Marvel has produced a piece of art. They have handled 3 hours of runtime in such a fantastic way that keeps the audience glued to their seats for every second. It is hard to see flaws in this marvellous film.
Although we’ll do our very best to keep this post spoiler free but if you’re a movie buff and have been following it since the first movie or would not like even the minor details disclosed of this masterpiece for the sake of discussion, we’d suggest you stop reading the review from hereafter and come back once you are through. We would love to hear your point of view about anything positive or critical you may have found in the movie.
You will have conflicted feelings of overwhelming heartache, happiness, pain, ecstasy among other sentiments.
For all the people who consider themselves indifferent towards emotional scenes in movies, we’d recommend taking a tissue box along with you because Avengers Endgame is surely going to put your machismo through some serious tests. The movie is an emotional rollercoaster… forget rollercoaster, it is an emotional train wreck that hits you harder than a tsunami. You will have conflicted feelings of overwhelming heartache, happiness, pain, ecstasy among other sentiments. Even if you make it out without shedding a tear, it never hurts to have tissues for your friends.
Avengers Endgame starts off right from the part where it was left in disarray after Thanos’ snap where the universe is filled with a huge void. The first half of the movie is dark and gritty, with bits of humor just enough to keep the audience attached. We can experience actually being submerged into the darkness, feeling a sense of loss as if we were living in the age of extinction with remaining people in the movie. It could not have been shot better than this. The storytelling, the depiction of deprivation and mourning is on point. Arguments, fights were imaginative and gave a strong sense of realism. To put it simply, nothing felt out of place.
Once the movie takes off, the second half sends us on an amazing journey of coming to terms with the reality, fighting back for yourself, standing up for those who can’t and never give up even in the deepest corners of despair. It is where remaining avengers think, process, formulate and activate their plan to resurrect the dead at the hands of Thanos. It is where the movie picks up its pace and takes an interesting turn which pushes the audience to the edge of their seats. You do not want to be missing any part of Avengers Endgame so take your restroom breaks before that or better yet before the movie.
Marvel has once again outdone even themselves in terms of CGI. If we didn’t know better, it looks as if everything shown in the movie existed rather than created by computer. The weapons, worlds, armours, suits, super powers, landscapes, architecture and much more is very compelling. You name it, the movie had it. Even the post-snap era is so beautifully shot (rather created), it actually gave us the creeps and left us feeling abandoned as if we were living it. Apart from a couple of scenes that could have been shot and edited a little better, rest of the CGI is a feat itself.
Marvel has retained its ability in choreographing amazing fight scenes
Marvel is well known for providing us sufficient action in its movies that is brilliantly executed and it has not disappointed us in Avengers Endgame as well. From the epic fights in Infinity War, Marvel has retained its ability in choreographing amazing fight scenes that involve the massive roster of superheroes and everyone getting enough screen time to fight against Thanos and his army, bringing them to their knees. Our favorite superheroes were given the most screen time or compensated by playing a major role if they were not in front of the camera. The fight scenes were impressive enough to bring out necessary “oohs” and “aahs” from the audience at the right time.
Avengers Endgame had everyone clapping their hands throughout, it made us jump, it made us sink, it made us laugh and it definitely made us cry. It is the perfect ending to the grand stage Marvel has set over the years. The story couldn’t have asked for a better full stop and the actors playing these characters couldn’t have been better casted. We enjoyed it immensely and we were deeply immersed in it till the last minute.
While Avengers Endgame does not have a post credit scene, it does have a post credit audio. It may not mean anything or it may mean something but the bittersweet ending to this Infinity Saga is totally worth it. If you’re having any second thoughts about going to the cinema for this movie or haven’t seen it yet, we can assure you that this will totally be worth it. So grab your tickets, (and again) grab your tissue boxes and head on over to the nearest cinema. You’re in for a big treat
